Something Worth Reading
News and opinion from a different perspective
I'm Paul J. Henderson and this is my new website where I share a window into the news. From local, provincial and beyond, using traditional news gathering with insight and analysis, this will be something a little like you've seen before from me, but different than what you'll read elsewhere.
And it'll be a little bit gonzo for sure.
This is a place for me to share what's important and what I'm pathologically curious about, to respond to requests from people to do exactly this, and to fill a gap in the ever-dwindling nexus between important matters in our world and the public that needs honesty, truth and an oasis in the growing wasteland of misinformation fed by disinformation, ignorance and bad actors with anti-democratic interests.
Not that I'm arrogant enough to think I can unravel all of that. But I can try. At least I'll do my best to be Something Worth Reading.
I launched here on Dec. 31, 2024 with the help of my web expert friend Kristoffer, photographs from the brilliant Greg Laychak, and assistance from others. So far what is here is a handful of recent stories and some of my favourite opinion pieces. I am also slowly sharing some of my more compelling stories from years past, including crime and human interest, politics, real estate and whatever else sparked my interest and held my attention.
This is whatever I want it to be. I will respond to readers and whoever else has something worth listening to, worth responding to, worth writing about. I will eventually have a subscription option and a newsletter but for now with this soft launch, it is what is. Bear with me.
You can subscribe soon if you'd like to stay up to date and receive emails when new content is published.
That Benjamin Franklin quote has become my new motto (also tattooed on my right forearm) after life went somewhat sideways for me professionally and personally in 2023 into 2024. So far it's been working out. No more writing crap that no one cares about or nitpicking over Oxford commas. When I'm not not doing that, I try to say "yes" to people and ideas and projects and adventures and whatever comes my way.
As my now 90-year-old father used to say to me about my ideas and dreams long before Nike came along and stole it from him: Just do it.
