Firearms, Vietnamese currency stolen from home ransacked over Christmas in Chilliwack River Valley
More than two dozen firearms and a "significant amount" of Vietnamese currency were stolen in a break-and-enter and theft at a home on Lyardon Road in the Chilliwack River Valley shortly after Christmas.
On Dec. 30 the Chilliwack RCMP issued a news release seeking public assistance about the theft that estimated to have occurred between Dec. 25 and 27, 2024.
Police were called out to Lyardon Road, a short cul-de-sac with about half a dozen homes and found the home had been ransacked and several items taken. The RCMP release did not say what day they were called to the property.
As many as 25 firearms were stolen, primarily long guns.
"Investigative efforts are continuing to identify the make and model of the firearms," according to police.
"A significant amount of Vietnamese dong (VDN) was also stolen. Police are appealing to anyone involved in currency exchanges to be on the lookout for individuals attempting to exchange large amounts of VDN for other currencies."
One Canadian dollar is worth more than 17,000 VDN.
Police are also looking for two vehicles that may have been involved in the theft: a small white vehicle and a Ford diesel pickup truck.
