Shaun Bolko facing charges for fleeing the scene of the crash that seriously injured a woman

(I include this old Progress story from May 31, 2019 on this new site because this has to be my favourite photo of an offender during an arrest. The steely eyes as prolific offender Kane Wilson stares me down after flipping a car and nearly killing a woman is epic - PJH, December 2024)

A dramatic two-vehicle crash and rollover at a residential downtown intersection Friday afternoon led to the arrest of two prolific offenders and a woman was seriously injured.

The crash happened at the intersection of Bole and Fletcher avenues. A pickup truck was overturned up against a fence adjacent to an apartment building, while a small blue sedan was across Fletcher up against a tree.

The male allegedly driving the pickup truck fled the scene and was arrested at a house in the 9500-block of Young Road by RCMP members of the Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST).

Shaun Darryl Bolko was in court Monday morning facing two criminal charges: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at the scene of an accident. He also faces charges of driving while prohibited and while licence is suspended under the Motor Vehicle Act.

While Bolko was arrested a few blocks away, another prolific offender, Kane Wilson, was arrested at the scene. He was seen crawling out of the passenger window of the overturned pickup truck.

The woman in the blue car had to be removed from her vehicle by firefighters. She was taken to hospital suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries. According to witnesses at the scene she had a dog with her, but the dog was uninjured.

Just before the crash, an RCMP officer witnessed an uninsured driver in the 46000-block of Yale Road. When the officer turned to engage his emergency equipment to stop the pickup, the truck turned north onto Fletcher and soon after collided with the car at Bole, which was travelling westbound.

Bolko appeared in court June 3 to face all charges, and is next due in court June 10. Wilson is not charged in relation to the May 31 crash. He was, however, due in BC Supreme Court to fix-a-date for three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
